Eight years ago, Clyde Greenhouse and Michal Taylor started Kessler Cookie Co., an online concern named for Kessler Park, where the life partners live. "It actually started off as a cookie we baked at home for friends and family," says Greenhouse. That was the chocolate-chip-pecan. Made with ingredients such as chocolate chunks and oatmeal, Kessler cookies are like luxury versions of Mom's home-baked. The game plan was to custom-bake each online order, says Taylor, 41, and over the years the duo has built a thriving baking and confectionary business, especially making corporate gifts. Taylor and Greenhouse, 44, both have day jobs, so they bake at night and on weekends. But farmers markets have changed their trajectory, Greenhouse says. All of a sudden, they're getting more exposure and selling more cookies. "We get face to face with consumers and do that one-on-one," he says, at Bolsa and Celebration farmers markets and White Rock Local Market, all new this year. Their ultimate goal, adds Greenhouse, is to open a retail shop next to their bakery in Oak Cliff. "We've just got to solve the parking issue." [ READ FULL ARTICLE ]
